Full disclosure: this is primarily a sentimental post.
FAO Schwarz holds a special place in my heart as my family happened to be in New York City shortly after the movie “Big” was released.
If you recall, one of the best scenes of the film featured Tom Hanks “jumping out” chopsticks on a ginormous piano on the floor of the FAO 5th Avenue store. Well, when my elementary-aged self walked into that same store with my family, that piano was still there and I jumped with glee!
Unfortunately, in subsequent visits to NYC, I discovered that the piano was not actually a permanent fixture at FAO. Nonetheless, I still make a pilgrimage into this landmark space whenever I’m in the city. Between the toys and gadgets, and the smiling faces, I can’t help but leave in a good mood.
Actually, the whole of New York City makes me smile – but that’s neither here nor there…
Enjoy reading about the new logo and its central character, named “Wit”.
