The San Diego Zoo is a world-reknowned organization and, at this point, an American institution. Many of us have grown up watching talk shows and documentaries featuring the animals of this facility.
Naturally, then, a change in identity would not go unnoticed in the public sphere. In this case, there is little to worry about, though. The new logo and typography are nicely executed and convey a fun day at the zoo.
